Never underestimate the importance of Body Language

Ursula had it right when she said don’t underestimate the importance of body language… she wasn’t just talking about sea witch shenanigans. Her sage advice applies to every day life - but especially to those of us who work-from-home!

How you communicate something often speaks louder than the actual words. Ever caught yourself saying, 'I’m fine,' with a sigh? Chances are, nobody believed you were actually fine. Why? Because our tone, expressions, and posture often tell the real story.

In virtual meetings, the way we present ourselves can make a huge difference. Slouching, avoiding eye contact, or sounding disinterested – even if unintentional – can send the wrong message. (It’s why I really have to work on telling my face to be quiet ).

But here's the flip side: Positive body language can also have a big impact. Sitting up straight, maintaining eye contact, and using an upbeat tone can not only improve how others perceive us but also how we feel about ourselves. It’s a small tweak that can bring big changes in our work-life balance.

So next time you're on a Zoom call, remember Ursula’s advice (minus the villainous intent, of course ). Your body language might be speaking volumes before you even say a word.
